P2 - Uses
There are multiple uses of animation including comedy, 3D animation film and horror.
I will be Family Guy & Robot Chicken for the comedy genre, Toy Story for 3D Animation and Stranger Things & Bride of Chucky as horror.
There are multiple uses of animation that can vary from TV, film, advert, comedy, horror, super hero movies, fantasy, adventure etc. They use animation to entertain and promote and advertise.
Comedies such as Family Guy and Robot Chicken use animation to entertain their audience. The target audience of Family Guy is mostly 18-35 year-olds, as the lead writer is of that age and they can include pop culture references of that time. Family Guy uses 2D animation, where everything was drawn by hand, which allows them to communicate complex ideas to a wider range of audiences. The main use of 2D animation in Family Guy is creating an animated cartoon that aims to tell a compelling story. Family Guy is hand drawn with elements of the real world. Using animation techniques, this show was created to entertain adults with immature humour and cartoon styles. Traditionally, 2D animation requires precise hand-drawings of every frame, which took a long time. Digital tools and techniques are now available to animators making 2D animation faster and more precise. 2D animation is currently the most common type of animation on the internet.
On the other hand, Robot Chicken is a comedy from 2001. Robot Chicken uses animation to ensure their audience is entertained; Robot Chicken was created using stop-motion, which can be inexpensive depending on the price of resources employed and the type of objects and props created. Stop-motion requires a large amount of images to be taken to achieve an accurate scene. It is a film making technique where objects are physically moved in small increments and captured one frame at a time so that when played back, it will give the illusion of movement and motion.
Overall, both are useful to create comedy within their audiences however I think that 2D animation is more effective at portraying the messages and comedy through their movements. The combination of hand drawn and real world elements together with references to modern times creates a realistic feel within the product.
In addition, horror is a very popular genre for animation. Horrors such as Stranger Things or Bride of Chucky, they use conventions and techniques to create a story.
The target audience of Stranger Things is 18-40, because the writers use nostalgia to keep their audience watching as it is set in the 1980's. Using animation, they can manipulate sets, people and props to make sure they achieve the nostalgic feel of their childhood. Stranger Things uses 3D animation to manipulate anything they want in post-production; the main use of 3D animation in Stranger Things is on people who are costumed with dots on their face as they are the monster they have to motion track their face and body to ensure the movements are realistic and accurate. 3D animation is completed on computer software making the process faster than 2D animation. With modern technology, the animation can be done live on set as they can set the cameras to show how the animation would look like on a monitor. This helps the directors when filming ensure that all space of the set is being used.
In conclusion, 2D and 3D animation is very helpful among different genres and sectors of media. 2D animation
