M1- Evaluate how suitable each animation is for the target audience. *** assess 2 and conclude with whether you feel they are effective or not. Explain why
The first example I have chosen to analyse is Spongebob Squarepants, which is a 2D animation created in 1999. The target audience of Spongebob is young children as the cartoon explores stereotypes aimed at children using bright colours and comedy that is understandable by young children.
The cartoonish style traditionally means it is aimed at children because of the bold outline, with often loud and obnoxious characters, who are also sometimes rude. Also, the show is very unrealistic as it is about a sponge and different cartoon sea animals living and breathing under the sea. The reason this attracts children is because children grow up watching similar products and are attracted to colourful products, which means Spongebob is very effective.
The purpose of Spongebob is to entertain children through comedy and convey lives of cartoon animals under the water.
The target audience of Spongebob is young children because they are easier to entertain. They use 2D drawing along with comedy that children will understand to make the target audience broader. However in the show, their are adult jokes that are hidden as part of episodes. The target audience

The next animation i will evaluate is South Park. South Park was created in 1997, where the first episode took 3 months to create as it was a line drawing animation. Since the first episode, every episode after that has been created using Maya animation software, which allows them to create the animations in 3D software. This means the animations can be created quicker and easier. South park use recent events in their episodes through their style of animation.
The show is well-known for its dark humour since its target audience ranges between 18-30. The show can be quite deceiving because it is a cartoon style animation however it contains content that is not suitable for children of young ages.
Compared to SpongeBob, South Park clearly has a different animation technique and aims at a different audience through dark comedy and referencing to real life evidently through certain topics and images to target the older audiences whereas Spongebob uses unrealistic characters and locations, and each episode includes a journey for the characters to establish a connection to the younger audiences.
