P6: Complete and edit the animation content in line with the plan
Here is my finished animation:
The first step to creating the animation was the import all of the assets from photoshop and add them to the timeline in After Effects. I did this by saving the photoshop files as a PSD file. Once the file was saved I opened After Effects and press file:import:file then selected the PSD file and clicked open. Then After Effects imports the layer s from photoshop to be used in the project. This was an important step as getting the settings correct would mean an easier creation.
I begun by creating a null layer, which allowed me to move across the scene. A null layer in After Effects is used as a placeholder layer for other layers or for applying animation to it. It is also used to control the visibility of other layers.
I begun adding keyframes to my UFO to allow for movement across and around the scene and the speeds that I choose. Keyframes are helpful as I can add them to important frames on the timeline so I can cut, move or add to the layer. For example, I added keyframes to each planet when I started and stopped the spinning. On the null layer, I used keyframes to stop and start it moving along in synchronisation with the UFO.
I then dragged my sun asset onto the timeline to begin the animation. I made sure it was a 3D layer so I could mess around with the scale, position and rotation. This allowed me to move the sun in any way that I wished along the 3D layer which meant I could move the layer without moving the sun itself.
I started to keyframe further down the timeline so I could rotate the sun until it no longer needed to be in frame.
Then I change the position of the UFO so it shows above the sun and flies past and moves onto the next scene.
Here I used these 2 keyframe to slow down and/or stop the animation in the place where i want. The entire scene will move right as if it is moving through outer space.
Then I followed the same steps to complete the rest of the planets including 3D layers, positioning, angling, movement and scale:
In the background music I will use fades to gently begin and end the animation. I also include a space ship engine boost, power up, power off and woosh sound effects as the planets go off screen.
